What Sort of Ecommerce is Suitable For You?Have you always wanted to open an ON-LINE STORE? Be careful because, if your site is not done correctly, the following will happen: The dream of having an online store is very appealing to many merchants because the fantasy is that visitors will be filling their shopping cart with orders and all they will have to do is make the bank deposits as their employees fulfill all those orders. For the most part, the only one who is ever going to make any money from your shopping cart is the design company that tries to convince you that you need to spend between $10,000 to $50,000 to have a stand- alone shopping cart system where you own the technology. What they won't tell you is that shopping carts don't work unless the design team also knows how to attract visitors who will actually buy from you. The perception that Internet users just can't wait to land on your site and buy your product is simply unfounded. The reality is that Internet users have thousands of shopping cart sites just like yours with many sites selling products just like yours to choose from. To think that somehow your cart is going to be the one where all these visitors will make an order is a fairy tale. One many designers will try to sell you on. Amazon.com gets about 4% of their visitors to make a purchase. Said another way, 96 out of every 100 visitors to Amazon.Com never buy anything and this company continues to spend tens of millions of dollars on their site and hundreds of millions of dollars in advertising that site. Most likely for you, Internet sales won't happen and you will never ever recover the cost of your investment. This is what happens to almost 95% of commercial Web sites. I know this is true because many of my clients came to me with an ecommerce Web site already built where they spent lots of money and did not make any sales or a few sales at best. If your designers remove themselves after the site is built and take no responsibility at all for what happens afterwards, they have got your money, and you have a big problem. It is not a question of having a maintenance contract for the technology of the site but rather of having a design team who carefully studies visitor behavior and can adjust their design and technology accordingly to generate sales. Does this sound familiar to you: Nice site, few orders. Remember, just because you have a site, doesn't mean it's working right!
So what is the correct way to do ecommerce? You should know that there are lots of ways to sell your product online, many of which do not require a standalone shopping cart system in order to generate orders for you. Of course, if you need a standalone cart, we'll build it for you and we'll make sure it works and that visitors actually order from you. You should also know that even if you have a standalone cart with lots of motivated visitors who want your product, many people will still not buy online from you because they will NOT use their credit card online. We know all about this because since 1997 we have been dealing with consumer resistance to online shopping carts and have developed effective solutions that create sales regardless of how the online visitor wants to pay. The idea that everyone landing on your site will immediately start placing orders, is a myth as many shopping cart owners can tell you. They may want to buy your product but for many reasons peculiar to online visitor behaviour they won't make that purchase. Do you know how to get these types of visitors to purchase from you? We do! If you have a physical store, you know how real customers behave when they visit your store. You can determine all kinds of buyer motivations just by observing the customer as they walk through your showroom. You have set up the store displays to subtly respond to every visitor and over time you make changes to better encourage sales. This is what savvy retailers do. Well, since 1997, we have spent tens of thousands of hours studying how people behave when they visit Web sites... all kinds of Web sites, as we have clients from every type of business and industry. As recognized experts in visitor behaviour analysis, we always study what they do on the site, where they go on the site, how they found the site, how long they stay on each page and on the entire site, how many orders are made and by what type of visitor, how many visitors fill out the online form, and we also study many other types of visitor information. Knowing how Web site visitors behave allows us to create Web pages that are more responsive, with subtle but effective content that encourage visitors to continue on to the order page. Since we have programmed the site to attract a certain type of visitor -your target market, we already have an audience interested in what you do. The challenge is to see how many sales we can generate from your visitor traffic. After doing this for seven years, we can tell you that a site that is working well should generate sales or contacts from between 2% to 5% of your site traffic, providing many variables have been successfully dealt with. Usually, the more expensive your product, the less the percentage of visitors who will buy your product or use your services. This is called the "conversion ratio" or the amount of visitors that can be converted into customers. It's an ongoing challenge and, as in any business, it always needs work. The Internet is a constantly changing environment and unless your Web site can respond in a timely manner to these changes, techniques that work fine now, will loose their effectiveness over time unless adjustments are made. Knowing this information allows us to design a site that actually works because we already know how your visitors are going to behave. And the only behaviour we are interested in is visitors buying your product or visitors buying your service. These are the only visitors who count. Everyone else is a waste of time. Either your site makes money, or it's also a waste of time and an expense too! The sites you see on our portfolio page are making profits over and above the cost of the site and the cost of the sales. That is, they are getting valuable traffic to the site. Visitors who actually buy! This is traffic that creates business and generates thousands, if not tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands, of dollars in sales. Should we get an opportunity to meet, I can show you exactly how I make that happen. You have never heard of most of our clients. Like yourself, they are business people trying to survive in a very competitive market. Unlike 95% of Web site owners though, they now have a successful Web site making substantial contributions to their bottom line. Real people, real businesses, real profits. What our company offers is a unique approach where we analyze your Web site's product market potential, research your target market, design accordingly and then monitor and adjust the design and the marketing (yes marketing) making sure that sales are always taking place. No sales, and you've wasted your money. And, unless your site is marketed properly on the Internet, you will not have any visitors to your site or the wrong kind of visitors will come. We have been building successful sites since 1997. Let us show you how! We can show you what we have done for other clients To learn more about Emarketing-Canada or to speak
